What is the "University of Muskie" - Esox School on Lake St.Clair?

The University of Muskie, Lake St.Clair is designed to bring Muskie anglers together off all skill levels and help them catch more muskies while trolling. 

University of Muskie will combine seasonal characteristics, specific tactics and awesome Lake St. Clair Muskie locations to help you catch more and bigger muskies.

Schools combine seminar based instruction with actual hands on muskie fishing. Our muskie schools are as "Hands On" as you want them to be!  Not only will you learn what it takes to troll on open water, but you will apply that information and catch muskie. The school is designed for your education and safety. Captain Mark knows what it takes to catch muskie on Lake St.Clair, let him and highly trained instructors help show you what it takes.

The LSC Muskie School is 100% Catch and Release and NO muskie will be kept during any U of M event.
Your instructor is Captain Mark Kornosky. He is the owner of Treblemaker Fishing Charters and has 25 plus years fishing experience solely on Lake St.Clair. 

Captain Mark has also won over (20) local muskie tournaments on LSC and know how to put big fish in the boat. He is a Muskie Inc. member and a Co-Founder of Lake St.Clair Muskies Inc. Chapter #58 (LSCMI). Captain Mark is also a Regional Director for Muskies Inc. International representing (13) Chapters throughout Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa.

Capt. Mark has the experience and knowledge to help make you a better muskie angler and catch more fish,  let him pass on that knowledge to you! During a U of M event, he will also teach you the proper handling and release methods used today.  It's these methods that help make LSC one of the world's premiere muskie fishery.  Captain Mark has set up (3) different classes at different times throughout the muskie season for you to choose from. 

Tactics vary at different times of the season, so choose a class that best suits your fishing needs. If it's help with early season spring, middle summer / deep water or the big baits of the fall, there is a class for everyone.  No secrets will be left out.

A low teacher to student ratio is important and each class is limited to the first (6) students.  Here is some of what is also included:

Latest information / Marked maps
Proper Sonar and GPS usage

How to sign up:
The University of Muskie, LSC will offer classes on any date available but must have minimum of (3) students per date for class to be offered.  Contact us to get on the school list and provide a couple of your preferred dates and we will try to work a date that works for all students wanting to participate.  A 14 day advanced notification is required if you choose to drop from the class.

Note - Captain Mark can provide Personal Muskie School Sessions on the date of your choice provided you have minimum of (3) students.  Captain Mark will try to accommodate any individual needs that you may require.  Contact us for more details.

Muskie School Rates:
  • $225 per person (1) Day Class
  • $375 per person (2) Day Class

  • Morning Seminar taught by Captain Mark Kornosky
  • Discuss boat set up, strategies and tactics for the day.
  • Review weather, water color, weeds, reports and tips.
  • Review map and fishing areas.
  • (8) Hours of hands on Muskies Fishing
  • GPS/ Sonar usage, moon phase,  lure selection, lure tuning
  • Rod / Reel set up, planer boards, & Boat rods.
  • How to properly set lines.
  • Boat safety, Proper muskie tools.
  • Proper handling and releasing of muskie - 100% CPR, Catch - Picture - Release.
  • Afternoon Seminar Discussed what worked and what did not
    Strategies for next fishing trip, what can we improve on?
  • Terminal tackle samples
  • U of M T-shirt

Note:  Michigan or Canadian Fishing license will not be covered in the cost of the Muskie School, only (1) license will be needed per class.  Captain Mark can arrange to get these for you.
